North Dalmatia - Zadar - Sibenik
Zadar the northernmost city of Dalmatia was for its strategic position a valuable point for Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Austro Hungarian empires. The old pedestrian centre displays carefully restored roman and medieval ruins scattered within the narrow streets: the Roman forum from the 1st century and the pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donatus, the symbol of the city. The sounds of a surprising natural music instrument “the Sea organ” will also enchant you.

The outskirts of Zadar display a great number of islands of which Ugljan is the most authentic one, the red coloured hinterland with its canyons is an ideal place for rafting and jeep adventures. The nature lover will find peace in the Paklenice national park, while the island of Pag will fulfil the gourmands.

Šibenik, the oldest autochthonous town in the Adriatic, is located in its naturally most protected bay, at the estuary of the Krka river. It was created initially as a castrum, a fortification or a campus, beneath the St. Michael’s Fortress that still dominates the town. Sibenik´s master piece, the cathedral Sv Jakov, and the town nucleus were included in 2000 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today, with the population of around 52000, Šibenik is the principal town of the county, constituting its cultural, educational, administrative and economic centre.
